Dr. Tariq Vakani, MD, FRCP (C)

 

In 1979, Dr. M. Tariq Vakani received his M.B.B.S from Dow Medical College in Pakistan. He has served the U.K., the U.S.A., and Canada. He has an interest in primary and secondary prevention of heart disease and heart failure, and coronary heart disease management.
Over the years, he’s achieved multiple professional memberships including the Royal College of Physicians in the U.K. and Canada, the General Medical Council in the U.K., the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and, most recently in 2008, the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Vakani’s research background is solid. He has participated in multiple research studies like the Discovery Trial, the SURGE Registry, and the landmark HOPE trial, which attempted to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events in at-risk patients. Dr. Vakani remains active in his mission to educate family doctors about proper cardiac care, regularly giving presentations on related topics such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and primary and secondary prevention of heart disease. He’s also spoken at a wide range of events, such as Novartis Pharmaceuticals in the U.S. and Merck Pharmaceuticals in Canada.

Dr. Shruti Tandon, MD, FRCPC (C)

 

Dr. Shruti Tandon, MD FRCPC is a Cardiologist with Fellowship expertise and Level 3 training in Echocardiography.
Dr Tandon received her Medical Degree (MD) from the University of Manitoba and completed both her postgraduate residency training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Western University in London, Ontario. During her training she was elected by her peers as the Chief Resident for both Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She went on to further advanced training and completed a Clinical Fellowship in Adult Echocardiography at Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Toronto. Her training focused on transthoracic, stress and contrast echocardiography as well as transesophageal echocardiography.
Dr. Tandon is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She also holds active certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Tandon welcomes general and advanced Cardiology referrals and has special interests in primary prevention, valvular heart disease and heart failure.

Dr. Andrew Crean, MD, FRCPC (R)

 

Dr. Andrew Crean – technology enthusiast and father of three inquisitive children – is a Cardiologist and Radiologist with fellowship accreditation, excellent pedagogical reputation, and significant research publications.
Dr. Crean received most of his medical education and training in the UK. He attained his Bachelor of Medicine from Southampton University in 1992 and then completed a combined year of internships specializing in General Adult Surgery and Gastroenterology. He went on to finish an extensive Junior Residency in Cardiology, Anesthesia, and Clinical Oncology at the Royal Infirmary and Western General Hospitals in Edinburgh.
Dr. Crean attained his Master of Science at Edinburgh University in 1999 and an advanced research degree (MPhil) in Cardiac MR at Cambridge University in 2003. During these graduate study years he did residency in Diagnostic Radiology and achieved fellowship at the Royal College of Radiologists UK (FRCR). Shortly after, he did further residency in Adult Cardiology and completed Level 3 Certification in Cardiac MR and CT. In 2008, Dr. Crean became a certified specialist in Cardiology (CCST).
Over the years Dr. Crean has been granted abundant research funding from a variety of institutions and has published high-quality scientific papers, case reports, and abstracts. In 2015 he was awarded $200,000 by the PMCC Innovation Fund (Co-I) to examine a novel immune cellbased MRI-PET strategy to predict patient recovery following cardiac tissue injury.
Currently he is Principal Investigator of multiple ongoing works including an important inquiry into the Cardiac Manifestations of Anorexia Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders. He has authored several book chapters for publishers such as Woodhead Publishing and Springer-Verlag. Most recently he penned the chapter “Cardiac Tumors” for the book Advances in Cardiac Imaging: Techniques and Applications.
Remaining immersed in pedagogy, Dr. Crean has received two Excellency in Teaching awards for his remarkable ability in instructing residents on the current science of cardiac imaging. He has frequently been a faculty member of, among others, the University of Toronto’s course “Coronary CT Angiography.” Continually updating his knowledge, Dr. Crean contributes to and attends relevant local conferences and symposiums and invited international lectures.

Dr. William McIntyre, MD, FRCPC (C)

 

Dr. William McIntyre, MD FRCPC is a native of New Brunswick. William graduated from Queen’s University Medical School in 2010. He attended Queen’s University for Internal Medicine residency and completed a residency in Adult Cardiology at the University of Manitoba. He maintains Royal College certification in both Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology. William currently resides in Hamilton, where he is currently pursuing additional training in clinical heart rhythm at McMaster University.
Dr. McIntyre maintains a strong research focus. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed research articles. His main research interests include atrial fibrillation, cardiac devices and syncope. He is a member of the scientific editorial boards of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of Electrocardiology.
Dr. McIntyre is an experienced speaker, and has lectured to physicians and patients on cardiac devices, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and ambulatory heart rhythm monitoring technology.
